It’s Sweater Weather and there is lots to do and even more to eat in Huntsville this fall!

After a season of incredible views as the awe-inspiring hills were coloured with fantastic reds, oranges and yellows during autumn’s peak, you may be wondering what to do next. Huntsville in the fall offers so much more to see and do then simply soak up the fall colours and amazing views.

Eclipse “Walk with Light” is an artistic sound to light walking trail arriving at Muskoka Heritage Place in Huntsville on November 5, 2021. Visitors will enjoy an array of artistic expression featuring sites and sounds that will illuminate the buildings and surrounding nature that pay homage to the past and present of this vibrant community. Beginning at the Rotary Village Train Station, those in attendance will follow a circular path of light through the property and journey through the seasons as seen through the vision of the creators. There will be music, spoken words and thousands of interactive lights that will respond to sounds created by the visitors themselves in this unique and brand-new experience.

Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend returns to Huntsville this November 12-14. Headlined by Brett Kissel at Deerhurst Resort, Girlfriends’ Getaway always provides a revitalizing and exciting weekend full of fun, fashion, live music, food and shopping.

The Huntsville BIA will be hosting the 1st Annual Muskoka Market: Huntsville Holiday Edition on November 27 and 28. Local partners are working to bring people together to shop local and take part in some holiday cheer.

These excursions and activities will cause hunger to stir, but not to worry as Huntsville has an abundance of amazing eateries and cafes waiting for you.

3 Guys and a Stove

This in the know simply know this iconic restaurant as “3 Guys.” From the atmosphere to the delicious meals, 3 Guys and a Stove provides an unforgettable experience for first timers and repeat guests alike.

Those visiting in the fall are in for a treat: their Curry Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Soup – a 3 Guys staple since 1996 – is full of wonderful flavour. And what better way to end the day than with a delicious soup.

Affogato Cafe + Gelato

This fun café is located on the other side of Main Street across from the Town Docks and River Mill Park. With a large menu of delightful treats and fantastic beverages, it’s a great place to grab a quick snack and hot beverage on the go.

Speaking of warm beverages, Affogato’s Chai Latte is a must-try when visiting Downtown Huntsville. Grab one to keep you toasty while walking along the docks, in the park, or checking out the amazing nearby shops.

Affogato Coffee

Algonquin Cafe & Deli

Affordable and delicious are most people’s two favourite words when it comes to food. In this regard, the Algonquin Café and Deli hits the mark. With over 65 years of smoking experience, they use an original spice mixture to dry rub all their meats and fish before smoking them in-house.

But, the Algonquin isn’t all about the smoked meat. Their Mile High Grilled Cheese takes the warm and fuzzy favourite to the next level. This grilled cheese is a triple decker Texas toast creation complete with sliced marble cheese, candied bacon and tomato.

The Artisan House

Truly a place where the menu is crafted and designed like a fine piece of art. Using years of culinary experience honed while working in kitchens overseas and in Canada, the executive chef will excite your palate with his palette of flavours.

If you have yet to visit, then you must try the beef stew. Hearty, bold and delicious, it’s served with homemade spaetzle and green beans.

The Antler Steakhouse

Located beside the Deerhurst Highlands clubhouse, this popular steakhouse offers plenty for the carnivore crowd, while providing many lighter options as well. The scenery isn’t too shabby in the loghouse restaurant either, as the restaurant overlooks the canal between Fairy and Peninsula Lakes.

Being a steakhouse, of course The Antler has high quality cuts available for their guests. Steak lovers are certain to enjoy the 8 oz AAA Beef Tenderloin, served with truffle scented wild mushroom sauté, asparagus, crushed fingerling gratin potatoes, and a smoked herb/garlic/peppercorn reduction.

BeaverTails

A Canadian classic treat if there every was one. BeaverTails has plenty of options to satisfy that sweet tooth, at the corner of Main Street and Brunel Road.

While the flavours vary from the Classic (golden pastry sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar) to the Brownie (topped with Chocolate hazelnut spread, brownie pieces, and white chocolate chunks), Fall is a great time to try the Apple Pie (complete with Apple pie filling with whole apple slices, caramel sauce, and crumble).

Apple Pie

The Birches Restaurant

With awesome views of Peninsula Lake and Hidden Valley Highlands Ski hill, The Birches Restaurant at Hidden Valley Resort offers a little something for everyone. It’s a great place for an easy night out and grabbing dinner and drinks with friends.

And when visiting The Birches, have a taste of their Chicken Wings, which go great with a nice draft beer. In fact, combo it up and go for a pitcher and a pound.

Canvas Brewing Co.

Fall visitors can warm up with a beer at Canvas Brewing Company. Opened in 2019 in downtown Huntsville, Canvas has quickly earned a reputation for well-made craft beer in a great setting. Their brewery includes a taproom with 20 taps and a 3200 square feet of event space.

Speaking of warming up, try the Imperial Spiced Ale, which is made from sweet caramel malts and a combination of species and herbs. With a rosemary-lemon-pine flavour and aroma, there in a minty-ness brought from thyme. Nutmeg in the recipe provides warmth, with hints of nuts and sweet notes arising from the cinnamon.

East Side Mario’s

Hey! Budda-boom, Budda-bing! It’s fun and catchy slogan which goes well with East Side Mario’s easy-going atmosphere. Great for a family night, gathering with friends, or just a couple, the menu of Italian-American favourites.

To fill a hungry belly, try Mario’s Spaghettini and Meatballs. It’s certain to satisfy with loads of spaghettini, meatballs and topped with Mario’s signature tomato sauce.

Eclipse Restaurant & Terrace

An extensive breakfast menu featuring all the favourites, a dinner menu that melds pub classics and chef creations, combined with fantastic lake vistas make Eclipse a top choice for either the first or last meal of the day. Situated inside the main building at Deerhurst Resort, Eclipse isn’t only the place to go for overnight guests.

The Mushroom Ravioli will tingle those taste buds and is a great vegetarian option. The stuffed pasta is tossed with root vegetable puree, roasted cauliflower, Brussel sprout leaves, diced tomato, fresh herb pesto, shredded parmesan, and spiced pumpkin seeds.

Family Place Restaurant

Known for making quality comfort food in a welcoming restaurant, Family Place has been a Huntsville favourite for generations. While there are many wonderful choices on the menu, the breakfast dishes and homemade pizza are true staples.

And if going with a staple, then what better than a Pepperoni Pizza (either dine in or take out). This true classic is just what you want without any frills; pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce.

Huntsville Brewhouse

Locally sourced fare with plenty of choice from the taps, the Huntsville Brewhouse by Lake of Bays Brewing Co. has quickly become a top choice for nibblies and brews by both locals and visitors. With an onsite microbrewery and knowledgeable staff – as well as a central location – it’s the place to pop-in for lunch or dinner.

For a hearty meal, order the Oven Baked Man ‘N’ Cheese; it’s made with Monterey Jack, mozzarella, 3-year-old cheddar and parmesan cheese in a creamy white sauce, topped with herbed spent grain crumble and more parmesan. Ask your server to recommend a nice brew to accent the flavours.

Mac n Cheese

Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse

A well-known franchise to many, Kelsey’s is a friendly place to have a meal with friends, family and coworkers. Great drinks, great laughs and plenty of yummy meals to choose from keep people going back for more.

Everyone has their go-to dish at Kelsey’s, but you would do yourself a disservice if you never try the full rack of ribs. These fall-off-the bone pork back ribs are slow cooked with BBQ sauce and served with your choice of sauce, side and coleslaw.

Main St. Local Kitchen

Serving “feel-good food” that is about passion and supporting local farmers, Main St. Local is a lovely place to visit at any time of the day. Family owned and operated since it’s inception, the restaurant takes great pride in preparation and service.

A visit to the Local is a great way to start the day, so header over for The Original Breakfast. It’s exactly what you need to get the body feeling good: two eggs, choice of bacon, ham, sausage or peameal with home fries and toast.

Breakfast

Maple Pub & Patio

Deerhurst Resort’s pub and patio is a laid-back place to have a meal and enjoy good company throughout the day. Stop in for lunch or dinner and take in the scenery as the Maple overlooks both Sunset Bay and the Lakeside golf course.

When in a classic Canadian pub setting, why not go for a classic Canadian dish, eh? Grab your beverage of choice and order a good helping of the Maple’s classic poutine.

Muskoka on the Rocks Pub

Just outside of Huntsville along Highway 60 is Muskoka on the Rocks, where you’ll feel welcome when you arrive and well-fed before you depart. Several indoor dining areas and a nice patio accompanying a well-appointed pub.

If you love burgers, you must have the Muskoka Burger at least once.

That Little Place By The Lights

You know you’re doing something right when Italians walk in the door and the aroma reminds them of Nonna’s cooking. Well, that sums up That Little Place By The Lights pretty well: each dish is made with love like they’re making a meal for their own family.

Which brings us to Annie’s Famous Lasagna (also none to many as Mama Annie’s or Nonna Annie’s lasagna). This hearty but delicate lasagna literally melts in your mouth as the layers of homemade noodles, béchamel and bolognese sauce, and other ingredients melt in your mouth.

Lasagna

Westside Fish & Chips

It’s hard not to figure out where and what this restaurant is best known for; it would be pretty funny (or maybe silly) to name a rib joint Westside Fish & Chips. Located on Main Street West, the favourite local haunt has been dishing out tasty fish and chips for decades.

Want to see what all the fuss is about? Well, head over and order a Signature English Style Fish and Chips to enjoy. Choose from haddock, white fish, or halibut, to go with the side of fries and coleslaw.

Windmill Bakery & Bistro

Walking through the doors at Windmill is like arriving at baked-goods heaven. The sweet aromas and mouth-watering selections are all so good it will be hard to choose what to take home. Of course, that means you’ll have to splurge a little while you’re there.

It’s also the best time of year for many harvest creations, so make sure and take home a pumpkin pie to share with your family and friends. Or don’t share … we won’t judge!
