This Saturday June 9th, Band on the Run returns to Huntsville, and it is now confirmed – it is the most fun you will have at a running event. Period.
Band on the Run offers the unique opportunity for all levels of runners to enjoy live bands rockin’ tunes along the running route as you challenge yourself on the scenic Muskoka Hills.
The day starts off with The Band on the Run Half Marathon. This route is not for the feint-of-heart. Previous participants have said that running on the Muskoka hills makes for one of the hardest Half Marathons that they have ever done. It’s the kind of course that people love while they are hating it! If you usually love flat and fast – this is not the race for you, but if you love a challenge – then this race is definitely for you! The half marathon route takes you from downtown Huntsville along Brunel Road and then out and back along North Mary Lake Road – the scenery will be beautiful!
Next up is the Band on the Run 10K! On this route, you’ll get to tackle plenty of rolling hills. There are some great rewards in training for this challenging 10k. If you can conquer the Band on the Run 10k – you will kick butt on every run you do for the rest of the summer! The 10K distance is very popular for Running Groups and Teams.
Another option is the 5K Run or Walk. This route is suitable for all levels of runners – with some hills – but don’t be nervous! Many Band on the Run 5K participants are trying a running race for the first time ever! The 5K distance is another chance to put together a team or sign up with your Running Group!
The final race for the day is the Kid’s Fun Run! This is ideal for kids that want to participate in the race but are not yet able to run 5k. The distance is approximately 800m. Parents are welcome to accompany their kids on the run. They do not need to be registered to do so. Parents running with their children should have ample time to get to the start line for their own race. All registered participants will receive a Technical T-Shirt, a Finisher Medal and food after the race. It’s called a ‘Fun Run’ because it should be fun for all the kids. Fun for some means they go as fast as they can and try to be first. While for others it is about smiling and waving to the crowd. All are welcome!
Feeling competitive? Try to beat the top finisher times from previous years at Band on the Run!

Of course, when an event is called ‘Band on the Run’, it can’t be just about the ‘Run’, there has to be Music as well! Music is huge part of Band on the Run. Along the route and at the start/finish line, runners are serenaded by live bands throughout the day! This includes 12 local bands for 2018. If you’re running by, be sure to give them some love, and if you’re spectating, feel free to walk around and enjoy some of the incredible local talent that Muskoka has to offer!
Following the race, Band on the Run features a family-friendly, licensed, all ages Post-Race Concert in River Mill Park! Starting at 2pm and going until 6pm, this years’ concert features Jonesy, Keep the Faith (an incredible Bon Jovi Tribute) and Soul45! If you have registered to run earlier in the day, you already have your ticket, but if you just want to enjoy an afternoon of music, tickets can be purchased for just $20 in advance HERE. Or they are available for $25 at the door, with Kids 12 and under getting in free.
Band on the Run gives you the chance to challenge yourself on the Muskoka Hills, while running through the incredible scenery that Muskoka has to offer. All of this combined with a day full of incredible music means Band on the Run is the most fun you will have at a running event. Period.
