Cross Country Skiing in Huntsville, Lake of Bays and Algonquin Provincial Park
Nordic, a.k.a cross country skiing, is one of the best ways to enjoy a winter day. Accessible to almost everyone, easy to learn — if you can walk you can cross-country ski — and inexpensive, it’s an engaging winter activity for all ages and skill levels, from beginners on up. And in Huntsville and Lake of Bays you’ll find hundreds of kilometres of groomed trails to explore in provincial parks and forest reserves, on golf courses, and at local resorts.
Shushing through a peaceful winter forest you might see deer, hares in their white winter coats, cardinals and blue jays, and other wildlife. Most of the local trails are track-set, providing a smooth gliding surface, but there’s powder to be found where you can make fresh tracks through the forest. Don’t have your own gear? Equipment rentals are available at local outfitters and at Arrowhead Provincial Park.
